Kaylee Wells:
Welcome to Between the Gels! I’m currently a second year PhD student at UMass Boston where I do research on understanding the mechanisms regulating size during axolotl (salamander) limb regeneration under the supervision of Dr. McCusker. I did my undergraduate degree in Developmental and Cell Biology at University of California, Irvine. While there I did research for Dr. Gardiner studying a different aspect of limb regeneration. In my *limited* free time, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and baking.
Melissa Brown:
I am a 2nd year Ph.D. student at University of Massachusetts Boston studying genetics and cell signaling under the advisement of Dr. Alexey Veraksa. My work focuses on the development of the Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) brain. I received my undergraduate degree from Providence College in Biology. While pursuing my undergraduate degree I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Nicanor Austriaco studying apoptosis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Outside of the lab, I enjoy photography, knitting, and explaining why fruit flies are cool.
